The city

On the North Coast of Spain lies the jewel of the Basque Country, San Sebastian. Once a small fishing village, it is now a beautiful summer holiday resort, in between picturesque mountains and its famous beaches, most notably La Concha beach, on the south coast of the Bay of Biscay. It is one of the most fashionable places to be seen in Spain these days, and becoming increasingly popular with Spaniards as well as other Europeans. The Parte Vieja is not to be missed with its famous traditional sights including the Plaza de la Constitución and plenty bars and restaurants along the small streets, offering tapas and some of the finest cuisine in Spain. Other sights include the gothic Cathedral, towering high above the city and the Castillo de la Santa Cruz de la Mota, overlooking the bay from Mount Urgull. Some of the famous festivals include the International Film Festival in September and the International Jazz festival in July. San Sebastian is the perfect place from which to base yourself and explore the surrounding Basque Country.

San Sebasti√°n is a city that creates an impact on account of its beauty and lifestyle. It offers extraordinary landscapes in the city centre itself: the contrast between the sea and the mountain.

Capital of the province of Gipuzkoa and the cultural and tourist centre of the Basque country, this city of 180.000 inhabitants seduces everyone because of its own atmosphere, due to its architecture, the university, the lively streets and its culture: a combination of modernity and tradition.

Beyond the concept of sun and sand, through the year the city offers a varied programme of exhibitions, concerts, popular fiestas, sports and international events: San Sebasti√°n's day in January, D-FOTO Fair, Dance in May, Jazz festival in July, big week festival in August and the International Film Festival in September.

And a short distance away: surf in Biarritz and Mundaka, hiking in the Pyrenees, the Pilgrim¬īs Route to Santiago, the wine cellars of Rioja and the avant-garde Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The ideal place to combine studying and making holidays!
